What inspired you to pursue a career in the rubber industry?
I have always had a lot of interest in the automotive industry. Upon graduating with my industrial engineering degree from Southern Illinois University, I was offered a job with Cooper Tire at their Texarkana, Ark., plant. I jumped at the opportunity to get involved with the production of a part that is critical to the safety and performance of automobiles.
How did your company sell the rubber industry to you during the recruiting/hiring process?
I had very little knowledge of tires at the time, but I knew I wanted to be connected to the automobile industry. I was extremely impressed with Cooper Tire's level of technology, ever-evolving environment and the fast-paced atmosphere of the manufacturing plant.
What advice do you have for students considering a career in the rubber industry?
Like any industry, the rubber industry can be challenging at times. These challenges provide excellent opportunities to learn and grow skills, and overcoming challenges to produce a high-quality product that meets or exceeds customer expectations is very rewarding.
