STOKE-ON-TRENT, England—Michelin has opened a new 575,900-sq.-ft. European distribution center at its England headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent. The facility has capacity to store and deliver more than 5 million tires each year.
In a July 7 statement, the French tire maker said the $12.7-million investment in the EDC had helped create 100 logistics and customer service jobs throughout the last 12 months.
In addition to handling Michelin tires produced in the United Kingdom, the EDC will host a national distribution center for sister company ATS Euromaster.
Michelin also has begun work on an additional 21,500-sq.-ft. warehouse for its truck retread factory, which will be located on the same site as the EDC. This unit is expected to be completed end of the year.
The new facilities are part of a $32.5 million investment made by Michelin within the last five years, one that the company said has increased productivity at the site by 35 percent. Environmental performance also improved as a result of the investments, Michelin said, noting that VOC solvent consumption is down 90 percent during the five-year period.
