NEDERWEERT, Netherlands—Dutch recycled carbon black producer Black Bear carbon black has received an official cradle to cradle certified bronze certificate from the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency.
According to Black Bear, the cradle to cradle certified products program recognizes products and materials that are developed to respect "human and environmental health designed for future use cycles, and that utilize clean energy and water throughout the supply chain."
According to the Dutch company, the certificate, which is offered by independent, third-party verified certification program, has never before been offered to a carbon black producer.
"This certification is a clear demonstration of our commitment to accelerating the transition towards a circular economy," Black Bear CEO Martijn Lopes Cardozo said in a news release.
According to Black Bear, the program had established that the firm's carbon black "has extremely low levels of harmful PAH's."
"The Black Bear Carbon upcycled product is a game-changer in the field of carbon black," Michael Braungart, founder and CEO of EPEA said in a statement. "It is 'upcycled' because the output material is of higher quality than the input material—furnace black in car tires."
