BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Motion Industries, Inc., has moved to its newly built distribution center at 200 W. Trinity Blvd., in Grand Prairie, Texas, in the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
The 156,000-sq.-ft. facility is less than a half-mile from a major highway, close to LTL carriers and close to both of the area's major airports. It is almost 50,000 square feet larger than its previous location and houses about 50,000 SKUs, according to a statement.
"The increase in square footage allows for a deeper and broader array of product offering for our customers," said Joe Limbaugh, vice president, operations/distribution/properties for Motion Industries. "In addition, the state-of-the art material handling equipment will ensure timely and accurate order processing."
About 150 Motion Industries employees worked alongside contract labor to finish the relocation ahead of schedule, according to Dan Krska, manager. The new distribution center officially started operation March 5, serves 65 Motion Industries branches daily and more than 530 locations across North America.
The new facility is also designed for on-site customer interaction, with conference rooms, red zone tour paths and a "Motion Experience Center" in the design, according to Limbaugh.
The two-story office also includes distribution center offices, Motion Industries' Southwest division offices, a full-scale branch with retail space and additional warehouse space. It also houses a build shop, which offers fluid power conversion, gearbox assembly, cut rails and shafting and valve assembly. Future plans include adding a bore-to-size lathe and increased shafting and rail stock.
In addition to the Dallas facility, Motion Industries operates distribution centers in Birmingham, Ala.; Tracy, Calif.; Chicago; Baltimore; Edmonton, Alberta; and Lachine, Quebec.
