JASIN, Malaysia—China's Shandong Wanda Boto Tyre Co. Ltd., producer of the Winda and Boto brands, is considering building a tire plant in Malaysia.
The Dongying City/Shandong-based company signed a memorandum in April with government of Malaysia's Malacca state to build a tire plant in Jasin, Wanda Boto said. The company plans to invest $275 million in the plant, which would span 613,000 square feet, according to the memorandum.
The company did not specify what types of tires it would make at the proposed plant.
Malacca is the state south of Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur, facing the Straight of Malacca.
Wanda Boto claims annual capacities of 15 million car tires and 3 million truck and bus tires at its plant in Dongying City.
Shandong Wanda is considered China's 16th largest tire maker and the world's No. 38 tire producer, based on 2015 sales of $628 million.
