LYON, France—French end-of-life tire management company Aliapur has reported a record 2016 with the collection of more than 334,597 metric tons of tires—the equivalent of 44.2 million passenger car tires.
A high point came in June, with the collection of 30,700 tons, equivalent to around 4 million car tires, Aliapur said in a statement. The spike was linked to an increase in the number of drivers changing tires ahead of the holiday season and marked just the secnd time the group had collected 30,000 tons of tires. The other time Aliapur collected surpoassed the 30,000 ton mark in October 2014, when it collected 30,200.
In a subsequent announcement, Aliapur reported that 59,564 tons of used tires had been collected in first two months of 2017. This followed the collection of 28,382 tons—equivalent to 3.75 million car tires—in February.
