WASHINGTON—U.S. tire shipments will grow only slightly in 2017, the Rubber Manufacturers Association said.
Original equipment passenger tire shipments will grow 1.5 percent in 2017 over 2016, to 50.1 million from 49.3 million, the RMA said in a March 8 press release.
But light truck and truck OE tire shipments will remain virtually unchanged from last year, the association said. Light truck OE tire shipments will stand at 4.9 million, truck tire shipments at 5 million.
Replacement passenger tire shipments will grow only 0.3 percent in 2017, to 209.3 million from 2016's 208.6 million, the RMA said. Replacement light truck tire shipments will rise 0.9 percent, to 32.2 million from 31.9 million, but replacement truck tire shipments will fall 1.4 percent, to 18.4 million from 18.6 million.
