Michelin adds industrial, Tweel tires

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Michelin North America has launched a bias-ply industrial tire for wheeled excavators and added a hard surface traction version of its Tweel airless tire/wheel hybrid.

The new industrial tire, the Michelin Power Digger, is designed for wheeled excavators that use a dual fitment, principally in construction applications and for the OE and replacement markets.

The 10.00-20 Power Digger offers thicker sidewalls and a directional-lug design for stability, Michelin said, especially as the excavator carries out 360-degree movements on varied surfaces. The tire also has a higher-load index of 147, which Michelin said is superior to competitive tires.

"With 80 percent of wheeled excavators in the market operating with a dual configuration, the Power Digger provides a superior solution for construction performance," said Justin Brock, North America compact line business manager for Michelin Agriculture tires. "To offer true market value, the tires that support this equipment must have resistance to everyday site impacts—the Power Digger offers this and more."

The new Tweel SSL HST, designed for operators involved with construction, transfer stations, waste handling, pavement maintenance or materials handling, offers longevity on hard surfaces without sacrifices in off-the-pavement traction, Michelin said.

"The development of this product was in direct response to customer demand," Brock said. "Our customers are looking for a long-wearing, hard-surface solution that also provides traction in off-the-pavement applications when needed."

Available in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, the SSL HST 12N16.5 X comes with a 48/32nds inch tread depth and 8/32nds inch of undertread, allowing the outer core tread to be retreaded, Michelin said.
