DETROIT—Nitto Tire Corp. is getting an unexpected dose of publicity as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles L.L.C. disclosed that the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will roll out on Demon-branded Nitto NT05R drag radials when it debuts at the New York auto show in April.
This fitment makes the Demon the "first-ever factory production car built with drag radials."
The Demon will sport the special NT05R radials—featuring Dodge's Demon logo molded into the sidewall—in size 315/40R18, mounted on 18x11 wheels, front and rear. The tires were designed and developed exclusively for the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon using a new compound and specific tire construction, FCA said.
The special edition Challenger also gains 3.5 inches of width, including fender flares to cover the tires.
Dodge first used the Demon name in 1971.
The Challenger SRT Demon is the latest in a series of limited-edition "muscle-car" versions of the Dodge Challenger. First there was the 770-hp Challenger Hellcat. Then late last year FCA rolled out a four-wheel-drive version.
FCA has been teasing the launch of the Challenger Demon in a series of short video clips.
