DUBLIN—West Pharmaceutical Services Inc.'s operation in Ireland is expanding rapidly.
The company has completed the expansion of a 60,000-sq.-ft. addition to one of the plants in the firm's contract molding complex in Mulhuddart, Ireland, which is located about seven miles northwest of Dublin, according to a spokeswoman. The addition will be operational in the first quarter.
Exton, Pa.-headquartered West also is in the midst of building a new pharmaceutical component manufacturing plant in Waterford, Ireland.
Its expansion in Mulhuddart is in response to customer demand for medical device manufacturing, especially in the area of products used for diabetes, the company said.
As a contract manufacturing facility, the spokeswoman said, the Mulhuddart site offers complex molding and assembly services, makes a variety of medical devices—such as auto injectors and glucose monitoring systems—and supplies device engineering support.
West's original facility in the city spanned 40,000 square feet, she said, "and since then we have expanded it twice and the total square footage of all the buildings (in the complex) is now 160,000 square feet."
