MUNICH, Germany—Germany's Pyrolyx A.G. has formed a joint venture with Seattle-based Reklaim Inc. that plans to open facilities in North America for the recovery of carbon black from scrap tires.
Munich-based Pyrolyx uses a pyrolysis-based process to recover carbon black from post-consumer rubber and tires. Pyrolyx said its reclaimed carbon black offers a cost-effective, sustainable alternative to traditional carbon black for a variety of plastics and rubber applications, including rubber compounds for tires.
Pyrolyx USA Inc. is 81 percent owned by Pyrolyx A.G. and will use Pyrolyx's proprietary recovery process at new facilities across North America.
Reklaim operates a recycling plant in Boardman, Ore., that it opened in 2008, using what it claims is its own patented, proprietary process.
Reklaim's top management team will run Pyrolyx USA.
No further details on the location of the facilities or investment size were given.
