BRUSSELS—Goodyear has developed a telematics-based vehicle-to-fleet operations management system featuring predictive analytics technology that it's rolling out in Europe under the name Goodyear Proactive Solutions.
The system will allow fleet operators to identify and resolve tire-related and potential safety issues before they happen, Goodyear said, through a combination of computer algorithms, data derived from Goodyear's commercial tire and service business and clear, accurate reporting.
Goodyear did not indicate if or when the system would be available in North America.
Using the system, fleets will be able to monitor their vehicles and tires in real time, which should lead to increased profitability and more sustainable operations, Goodyear claims.
"We are witnessing a transformational shift that is reshaping commercial trucking," said Michel Rzonzef, vice president, Commercial Business, Goodyear Europe, Middle-East and Africa."In a digital economy, consumers and businesses expect deliveries to be faster, cheaper and more flexible, and in response the industry is becoming increasingly connected and automated. Goodyear Proactive Solutions offers fleet managers a one-stop,
user-friendly solution to help reduce their total cost of operations and improve the uptime, efficiency and sustainability of their fleets."
The new business offers two families of services:
Proactive Tyre—which offers a range of services, including tire pressure, temperature and tread-depth monitoring, that enable fleets to maximize tire performance and schedule proactive maintenance; and
Proactive Fleet—which includes two options, Driver Behavior and Track & Trace, that help fleets reduce fuel consumption and journey times while increasing safety.
Goodyear claims its field testing of the system over the past two years showed that fleets avoided 75 percent of tire-related breakdowns, cut monthly fuel costs by roughly $320 per vehicle and tire maintenance costs by 70 percent.
"Our innovative solutions are fully compatible with all commercial truck tires, allowing every fleet owner the opportunity to benefit from these new connected fleet management solutions," added André Weisz, managing director, Goodyear Proactive Solutions.
Goodyear did not say what, if anything, fleets are charged for integrating the new service into their operations.
The new service is available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
