WASHINGTON—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has granted Michelin North America Inc.'s petition for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance involving 184 Michelin Pilot Power 3 motorcycle tires, size 180/55ZR17.
The tires, manufactured between April 17 and May 7, 2016, do not have the marking the designate the maximum load and corresponding inflation pressure for that load, Michelin told NHTSA in its petition.
However, the tires do have the correct industry standard tire size and the Load Range B markings on their sidewalls, which makes the noncompliance inconsequential from a safety standpoint, Michelin said.
Also, the correct tire inflation pressures are on the motorcycle vehicle placards as required by federal law, it said.
NHTSA is accepting comments on the grant of inconsequential noncompliance until Dec. 12. The notice appeared in the Nov. 10 issue of the Federal Register, and can be found here.
