LESZNO, Poland—VMI Group broke ground Nov. 3 on a new manufacturing facility in Leszno, according to the Dutch tire machinery maker.
Due to be operational in the second quarter of 2017, the facility will initially employ 125 people, and operate to the “latest lean principles,” VMI said. The plant, in its initial phase, will cover 44,200 square feet and will be built on a 20-acre plot of land, a company statement said.
According to the company, various sites in Eastern Europe were studied for the location of the plant. Leszno was chosen for its proximity to universities and technical schools and its “ability to attract well-motivated and highly qualified, technically skilled employees,” said VMI. This, combined with a supportive investment climate, made Leszno the right choice.
VMI currently operates in eight countries.
