RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.—PT Gajah Tunggal Tbk, the Indonesian tire manufacturer, is voluntarily recalling approximately 250,620 tires for a manufacturing anomaly that could lead to cracks in the lower sidewall, the company said.

GITI Tire (USA) Ltd., the Rancho Cucamonga-based importer and distributor of Gajah Tunggal tires in the U.S., will handle the recall, Gajah Tunggal and GITI Tire said in a press release. All of the recalled tires were manufactured in Indonesia, and the recall affects North America only.

The manufacturing anomaly usually manifests itself as a visible crack in the inboard sidewall after the tire has been in service for several months, Gajah Tunggal told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Because of the crack's inboard location, detection is difficult, the company said.

The recalled tires are spread among the Primewell, GT Radial and Dextero tire brands, Gajah Tunggal and GITI Tire said. The tire identification table is as follows:

    • Primewell Valera Touring II: size 205/65R16 95H, DOT number Y9 CLHX 1714 to 4016; size 205/50R17 93V XL, DOT number Y9 HF CLVX 1814 to 3516; size 215/50R17 95V XL, DOT number Y9 HH CLVX 2214 to 3516; size 225/50R17 94V, DOT number Y9 HJ CLVX 1914 to 3416; size 225 50R18 95T, DOT number Y9 FH CLTX 1914 to 3416.

    • GT Radial Champiro Touring A/S: size 205/65R16 95H, DOT number Y9 BC CHRX 1714 to 4016; size 205/5R17 93V XL, DOT number Y9 HF CRVX 4615 to 3416; size 215/50R17 95V XL, DOT number Y9 HH CRVX 4515 to 3216; size 225/50R17 94V, DOT number Y9 HJ CRVX 4515 to 3416; size 225/50R18 95T, DOT number Y9 FH CRTX 0316 to 3416.

    • Dextero Touring DTR1: size 205/50R17 93V XL, DOT number Y9 HF CVVX 4415 to 3116; size 215/50R17 95V XL, DOT number Y9 HF CVVX 4015 to 3616; size 225/50R17 94V, DOT number HJ CVVX 4215 to 3516.

GITI Tire has begun mailing recall notices to tire owners, and will replace the tires free of charge. Tire owners may also contact Recall.Primewell-us.com, DexteroTires.com/recall or GTRadial-us.com/recall, or call 877-342-0882.
