Video: Rubber Division looks for strong week

PITTSBURGH—The executive director of the ACS Rubber Division said the group is expecting a good showing at its International Elastomer Conference this week in Pittsburgh.

Edward Miller said overall attendance is expected to hit about 3,000 for the IEC and Rubber Expo, which is more than the technical organization had for the comparable Nashville show in 2014. The IEC runs Oct. 11-13.

In addition, about 1,000 registrants were projected for the technical sessions. “We haven't had that in years,” Miller said.

The Rubber Division executive director attributes the numbers to the strength of the expo as well as the speaker lineup. He also said the student program has grown and the organization has expanded its outreach to other countries.

That latter initiative started during the recession in 2009, Miller said, and involved expanding its outreach into such countries as Malaysia, China, Brazil, Mexico and elsewhere. “We could have buried our heads, but we didn't,” he said. “We came out to be ready for 2011 and beyond. I think the health of the division is back to where it was when I joined in 2002.”
