AMSTERDAM—India's Apollo Tyres Ltd. has hired former Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. Director Daniele Lorenzetti as its chief technology officer, almost a year after bringing ex-Pirelli CEO Francesco Gori on board as strategy adviser.

Apollo said Lorenzetti will lead the company's research and development for both passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle tires.

“With several tire and mobility related patents against his name, Daniele would help us achieve product leadership in various segments,” said Neeraj Kanwar, Apollo's vice chairman and managing director.

“I am excited to be a part of this growing organization, which is gradually making its mark globally,” Lorenzetti said. “I am positive that we will be able to bring out competitive products which address our global customer needs, and at the same time, is technologically superior.”

Lorenzetti worked with Pirelli for nearly 20 years in various capacities, including his last role as product director of its industrial division, where he was responsible for the management of tire product, materials and process development from design to industrialization of truck, agricultural and special vehicle tires.

Prior to that he was the product director for passenger vehicle tires with a global responsibility of technical OE homologation activities and development of new product lines.

Lorenzetti was also vice president – R&D (agro, forestry & industrial tires) at Trelleborg Wheel Systems S.p.A.

He will be based at Apollo's European headquarters in Amsterdam.
