WASHINGTON—Goodyear has recalled 1,650 Goodyear G399A LHS tires, size 295/75R22.5 LRG, because of possible tread separation.
The tires were manufactured between Jan. 24 and May 28, 2016, according to a safety defect report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The tires are supplied as original equipment to Freightliner, Volvo Trucks N.A., Paccar and Navistar, and also are sold in the replacement market, Goodyear told NHTSA.
There was a cure anomaly in the factory when these tires were made, resulting in incomplete adhesion which could lead to partial tread separation, according to the NHTSA report. Noise or vibration may occur before a tread separation, Goodyear told the agency.
A routine analysis of field performance data in May 2016 showed elevated adjustments for the recalled tires, according to the safety report. Goodyear collected tires from the field and found incomplete cures coming from the same curing press, it said. Subsequent analysis showed the same problem in a second curing press, it said.
The recalled tires bear the plant identification MC, the size code 37, the optional code HRBW, and begin/end M codes 0416/0716 and 1916/2116, NHTSA said.
Goodyear will replace the recalled tires free of charge and disable and recycle them, the report said. The company will notify customers no later than Oct. 15, 2016.
