SYDNEY, Australia—ContiTech A.G. has acquired Vulcanite Pty Ltd. to bolster its air springs business and enhance its presence globally, especially in Australia and the U.S.
Vulcanite is a Sydney-based railway engineering specialist. The company designs and manufactures components used to isolate mechanically induced vibration, primarily using rubber- and steel-molded composites.
A division of tire maker Continental A.G., ContiTech made the purchase because it “opens up additional growth potential in the railway business for air springs,” according to Claus-Peter Spille, head of the firm's Air Springs Systems business.
Vulcanite has a work force of about 60 and operates a production plant in Sydney and Seremban, Malaysia that it opened in 2012.
It has a well positioned base in Australia and the U.S., where it exports a large number of components to key customers.
