EAST LANSING, Mich.—Only a few spots remain for the Michigan Rubber Group's 38th annual salmon/trout fishing derby, which will be held Friday in Grand Haven, Mich.
Organizers says a lot of salmon and trout have been caught since the event began; in fact, in 2012, 25 fishermen caught more than 1,000 pounds of fish, and a year later, nearly 1,400 pounds were caught.
The Michigan Rubber Group uses proceeds from the salmon fishing outing for a variety of purposes, primarily for the funding of scholarships. The funds also help pay for students from local university programs to attend technical meeting as well as attend the annual fall ACS Rubber Division's International Elastomer Conference.
The MRG is still seeking corporate donations, and any gifts “in kind” received will be awarded to winner's fishing competitions and for door prizes. Boat sponsorships are available for $100 per boat.
Registration/check-in will be at Chinook Pier, located at 301 North Harbor Drive, Grand Haven, from 5-5:45 a.m. Friday. Cost is $195 per person, and it includes boat, tip and lunch. Boats will board and leave the dock at 6 a.m. sharp.
Fishing licenses are available at the dock. A luncheon will be held at the dock following the noon return. There also will be a 50/50 raffle, awards and door prizes.
The MRG requests that at least one person from each group or boat is a member in good standing. Dues are $15 per year. Membership dues should be included with registration if participants are not currently a paid member of the MRG.
If accommodations are needed, hotels in the area include the Holiday Inn Spring Lake, Best Western Grand Haven and Days Inn Grand Haven.
Entry forms and further information are available from Ryan Snyder, fishing outing chair, who can be reached via phone at 269-567-0514 or email at [email protected].
