WARSAW, Poland—Polish tire sales have seen their largest quarterly increase in the first three months of 2016, according to Piotr Sarnecki, director general of the Polish Tyre Industry Association.
Passenger car tire sales grew 7 percent year on year and truck tire sales rose by 11 percent during the period. Motorbike tires saw a record-breaking 24 percent growth in the first quarter.
Demand for SUVs—and SUV tires—increased noticeably, which Sarnecki said might trigger a change in the economy tire class.
“Those who buy expensive cars with 17-inch wheels or larger are unlikely to opt for lower-end products,” he added.
Explaining the weather impact on tire sales, Sarnecki said that warmer climate had led to a higher rate of motorcycle use and negatively affected winter tire sales.
