CERRITOS, Calif.—R.D. Abbott Co. has extended its partnership with Dow Corning Corp. and will begin distributing Dow Corning's Moldable Optical Silicone materials for manufacturers and fabricators throughout North America.
Products specifically named in the newly signed distribution agreement are Dow Corning's MS-0002, MS-1001, MS-1002, MS-1003 and MS-2002 (White Reflector) Moldable Optical Silicone materials, R.D. Abbott noted in a news release. The Dow Corning products benefit the residential lighting, automotive and consumer goods markets as they are designed for optical clarity, can withstand heat and resist yellowing better than plastic, while weighing less than glass.
Additional benefits of the products, according to R.D. Abbott, include:
- Ability to be molded into complex shapes, offering extensive design flexibility;
- Resistance to scratches, cracks, or breakage;
- Protection from impact and vibration; and
- Rapid cure times and material flexibility, allowing for easier demolding.
“R.D. Abbott has a long history of being a technically innovative supplier for Dow Corning,” said Keith Thomas, R.D. Abbott president and CEO. “We look forward to extending this partnership by distributing their optical silicone products throughout North America and by developing new solutions for efficient, reliable, and cost-effective lighting designs.”
