SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Milliken & Co. recently received the Europur Innovation Award for its Milliguard AOX-1 polymer-bound antioxidant for polyurethanes, which was designed to help the automotive industry meet more stringent standards for vehicle indoor air quality.
Antoni Puig, product line manager for PU colorants and additives in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, and European Technical Manager Sven De Vis accepted the award on behalf of Milliken at the 50th anniversary celebration of EUROPUR held last month in Brussels, Belgium.
To enhance air quality, the Milliguard AOX-1 antioxidant promotes compliance by contributing negligible volatile organic compound and outgassing condensation content in emissions testing and works to efficiently stabilize free radicals that can degrade PU foam, Milliken said. The product also interacts synergistically with other antioxidant classes and reacts earlier in the oxidation cycle.
“Winning the Europur Innovation Award—after taking an R&D 100 Award late last year—further validates the importance of our Milliguard AOX-1 antioxidant technology as a growing material of choice in a wide range of interior automotive applications,” said Jesse Shoultz, Milliken's global market manager for performance colorants and ingredients.
