The importance of extensive R&D and thorough testing of rubber compounds cannot be emphasized enough. Leading compounders will not send any compounds to the field before they know exactly how the material compares to other compounds – including its expected life cycle – based on application requirements and customer specifications.
When it comes to testing that ensures the highest quality compounds, Chase Elastomer, a HEXPOL company, is second to none. With over 20 different testing stations to perform physical properties, analytical, and life cycle testing, Chase has standard and custom tests for every compound. Tests are also available for new formulation development, as well as specially designed testing procedures available upon customer request.
As part of the battery of industry-standard tests conducted at HEXPOL's Chase Elastomer campus, we also have a few tests that are unique in the industry, and specifically designed and developed by Chase Elastomer (See box).
Hardness – This is the most fundamental rolls test. Hardness can be tested on several different scales, based on the compound and application requirements. Shore A (printing and industrial), Shore D (industrial and paper), Shore 00 (sponge), and P&J (pulp and paper, as well as some industrial).
