NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Bridgestone Americas has Inc. recovered all of the Firestone Champion with Fuel Fighter tires it suspected of having a manufacturing defect and thus has closed its voluntary safety recall.
Bridgestone said its internal inspection and validation procedures determined that just eight units of one size, 205/70R15, contained the manufacturing anomaly that caused it to issue a recall May 6 for approximately 2,900 Firestone FR710 and Firestone Champion replacement passenger tires produced in late March/early April because of possible tread-separation issues in a small percentage of those tires.
Bridgestone said it discovered that none of the eight tires ever left its possession. Therefore the company determined there is no safety concern and has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to have the original recall filing amended to reflect this information.
The company said this safety recall filing is a “testament to our company's commitment to safety and to ensuring that the products we deliver are the very best quality and perform as expected.”
Bridgestone also is communicating with its retail and dealer networks to advise them as well, and reiterated that consumers who have questions about the safety of Bridgestone or Firestone can call 844-293-7514 or locate an authorized Firestone dealer to have the suspect tires examined.
