LONDON—Ford has chosen to fit Michelin Pilot Super Sport and Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on its new Focus RS models, the French tire maker said in a news release.

Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, the new Ford Focus RS will be fitted with Michelin's flagship tire in 235/35 ZR 19 front and rear.

Also, there is an option of Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for track-focused customers.

The tires offer a surprising level of grip and reduced lap times on the track, David Put, Ford development engineer and driver, said in a Michelin press release.

Also, he pointed to the tires' level of precision to road handling, which he said was a result of joint work carried out by Michelin and Ford Performance teams.

According to Michelin, both tires share technologies developed in motorsport, including a variable tension high-density fiber belt to ensure high-speed stability.

Because of its variable tension, the belt tightens the tread area more than the shoulders and as a result, centrifugal force is more effectively overcome and pressure is more evenly distributed throughout the contact patch.
