WASHINGTON—Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc. has filed a petition for a finding of inconsequential noncompliance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding 1,059 mislabeled passenger tires.
The tires in question are Nitto NT05 295/35ZR18 98W tires manufactured between Dec. 14, 2014 and Aug. 1, 2015, Nitto told NHTSA.
The tires do not include the proper generic names for the plies in the tread and sidewall areas as required by federal safety standards, according to Nitto. They are marked “Tread 2 Steel 2 Rayon 1 Nylon; Sidewall 3 Rayon,” when the correct marking is “Tread 2 Steel 2 Polyester 1 Nylon; Sidewall 3 Polyester.”
The tires meet all other federal performance and regulatory requirements, and Nitto has not received any complaints, claims or warranty adjustments for these tires, the tire maker said.
The notice appeared in the Dec. 14 Federal Register. It can be accessed here.
