TORONTO—The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada has released its first-ever Winter Tire Report, designed to be a comprehensive support of government and industry consumer education efforts about the need for winter tires in Canada.
The report details the latest winter tire shipment, market, usage and text data, along with recommendations to increase winter road safety and build awareness of the benefits of winter tires, TRAC said in a Nov. 18 news release.
TRAC's latest shipment data show that winter tire demand is increasing, the association said.
“These shipment increases are due in part to measures by government, industry and stakeholders to educate drivers about the superior traction and stopping distance of winter tires,” it said.
Winter tire shipments to dealers have increased 35 percent in Manitoba, 25 percent in Ontario and 14 percent in Canada's Atlantic provinces, TRAC said.
