SHANGAI—Mitsui Chemicals Inc. officially has opened its new manufacturing and sales operation for performance compounds in Jinshan District, Shanghai.
The 11-kilotons-per-year facility is operated by wholly owned subsidiary Mitsui Chemicals Functional Composites (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.
At an opening ceremony held Oct. 27, MFS president Hideshi Kawachi pledged to try to make “a significant contribution to the development of the automotive and packaging industries in China.”
This goal, said Kawachi, would be achieved “together with our customers through environmentally friendly, safe and stable plant operations.”
According to Mitsui, MFS is strategically situated in eastern China and is targeting China's rapidly growing automotive and packaging material markets.
In March, the Chinese company started to manufacture and sell its Milastomer thermoplastic elastomer, used in automotive window frames and as interior material.
The new plant is also producing Admer, an adhesive polyolefin used in automotive fuel tanks and food packaging materials.
Mitsui said it plans to expand manufacturing, sales, and technical services at the Shanghai operation.
