Editor's Note: Each week, Rubber & Plastics News will take a look at some of the rubber industry's new products and innovations on www.rubbernews.com. Does your company have a new product or new innovation? To be considered for inclusion in this recurring feature, email [email protected].

Badger Meter Inc. has introduced RCT1000 Coriolis mass flow meters, the latest addition to an extensive line of flow instrumentation products.

The RCT1000 provides the ability to measure mass, volume, density and temperature simultaneously, Badger Meter said, providing control options to synchronize precision processes.

Every RCT1000 Coriolis mass flow meter comes with the RCT Console software package. The RCT Console is designed to provide users maximum operational flexibility and ease-of-use, the company said. By allowing users quick access to configure measurement parameters through the RCT Console software or the LCD interface on the transmitter, Badger Meter said the meter can be set up and measuring flow in a matter of minutes.

The RCT1000 Coriolis mass flow meter identifies flow rates by directly measuring fluid mass over a wide range of fluid temperatures and viscosities with a high degree of accuracy. Additionally, Badger Meter said the unobstructed, open flow design and measurement technique makes the RCT1000 suitable for a variety of fluids such as vegetable oils and fats, slurries, adhesives, coatings and hardeners, and other viscous, nonconductive fluids that are difficult to measure with other technologies.

According to the company, RCT1000 advantages include:

    • Measures either liquid or gas

    • Unobstructed open flow design

    • Low-maintenance operation with no free-moving parts

    • Modbus RTU and Ethernet network options

    • Advanced fluid diagnostic tools

    • Batching and PID control

    RCT1000 specifications:

    • Pipe size: 1/16…3 in. (1.6…76.2 mm)

    •Accuracy:

Liquids: up to ±0.1 percent of flow rate ± zero stability

Gases: up to ±0.5 percent of flow rate ± zero stability

       Density: up to ±0.03121 lb/ft3 (0.0005 g/cm3)

    • Zero stability: up to ±0.025% of full scale

    • Repeatability: up to ±0.05% of flow rate

    • Process temperature range: −40…392° F (−40…200° C)

    • Wetted material: 316L stainless steel

SO.F.TER. has introduced Litepol, a new polyolefin compound reinforced with hollow glass microspheres, innovative filler developed by 3M, which has a density of less than one fifth of other mineral fillers such as talc or solid glass beads.

Litepol has the same mechanical characteristics as polypropylene filled with 20 percent talc, SO.F.TER. said, but weighs approximately 30 percent less and can be used in many interior components of cars such as the dashboard carrier, glove box interior, consoles and air ducts.

Depending on requirements, SO.F.TER. said it is possible to balance the mechanical properties and the lightness of the material to obtain the desired end result. For components that require a greater structural capability, a hybrid grade (10 percent glass fiber and 20 percent glass microspheres) is already available, the company said, which offers good mechanical properties, comparable to a 30 percent glass fiber but with a weight saving of about 20 percent.

After testing Litepol, the Fiat Group already has included it in its polypropylene material standards (FCA Material Standard 55246, approved as Polifor C8 HB/24), the company claimed.

Larson Electronics L.L.C. has released a Class 1 and 2 Division 1 and 2 portable explosion proof LED light mounted on an adjustable base stand fabricated from non-sparking aluminum. The EPL-24BS-5FT-1X150LED-100portable explosion proof LED light provides operators an easy to maneuver LED work light for use within hazardous locations, the company cliamed.

This portable fixture is comprised of a 150 watt LED light head that produces 13,000 lumens of light, Larson said, and is mounted atop a base stand fabricated from non-sparking aluminum. The LED light head produces a brilliant flood pattern of light ideal for illuminating enclosed areas and hazardous locations where flammable vapors, gases and dusts may be present.

The explosion proof LED light head in this unit features multiple LED drivers, Larson said, which help increases the operational life of the fixture. This new series of LED lamps contains 12 LED boards configured in a series of banks. Each bank contains two LED boards with an individual driver. In the event of a driver failure, Larson said, only one bank of LEDs will be affected while the other banks will continue to operate. In the event of an LED failure, the mating LED will continue to operate.

The lamp can be adjusted up or down 90 degrees, the company claimed, and locked into position by loosening the two hand screws located on the side of the light head. Once the light is in the desired position, the operator then tightens the screws back to set the position. The light frame assembly features a carrying handle on the top for easy transport and a hand screw at the base, allowing operators to pivot the top frame assembly on the four leg base stand, the company said.

The base stand and light stand measure 5 feet in height. By removing the center extension piece, Larson said operators can collapse the unit to about 2 feet.

This portable LED light also includes a 100 feet SOOW cord terminated in an explosion proof straight blade plug. Additionally, it is multi-voltage capable and can be configured to operate on 120-277 volts AC, the company claimed. For added protection to the lens, Larson said it is shipped with 25 peel-off Mylar over-spray lamp protectors.
