MISSISSAUGA, Ontario—Peel Regional Police are investigating the death of a woman struck by a tire that separated from a dump truck.

According to a police press release, the 49-year-old victim was walking down Meadowvale Boulevard in Mississauga the morning of Sept. 18 when two tires separated from a passing dump truck. One of the tires struck the woman. She was taken to a trauma center, where she later died.

The press release asked witnesses to the accident to come forward. Witnesses could call Peel Regional Police at 905-453-2121 ext. 3710 or contact Peel Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit this website, the release said.

Police did not release the name of the truck driver or the company that owned the truck. A police spokesman said further details would not be released until completion of the accident report.

CBC News identified the victim as Diane Tsialtas of Brompton, Ontario, but the police spokesman declined to confirm this.

Peel Regional Police is the police authority for more than 1.2 million Ontario residents, covering the cities of Mississauga and Brompton.
