WASHINGTON—Green Effect: The Recycling Industry's Economic Impact is the title of the new video from the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.
The video illustrates the significant contribution the recycling industry makes to the U.S. economy in terms of employment, tax revenue and overall economic benefit, ISRI said.
Among the facts the video presents are:
• The scrap recycling industry generates nearly $106 billion annually in the U.S.
• U.S. scrap recyclers employ nearly 150,000 workers and pay more than $11 billion in wages every year.
• The recycling industry and its employees pay some $6.76 billion in federal taxes annually, as well as another $4.39 billion in state and local taxes.
• Recyclers export processed scrap in volumes comparable to other commodities such as grain, corn and cotton.
The video was based on a study performed for ISRI by the independent consulting firm of John Dunham and Associates, ISRI said.
