William Hyde, senior director of olefins and elastomers for IHS Chemical, speaks at the International Latex Conference on what impact the current low oil prices will have on synthetic latex feedstocks. He said the current petrochemical trends are potentially a complete reversal of underlying trends seen since 2007.
Whether the situation is a “bump in the road or a transition,” Hyde said he sees it “more of as a big bump.” One potential area of concern is butadiene, where he said there may be tight supplies. The conference, held in Fairlawn, Ohio, was organized by Rubber & Plastics News along with Akron Dispersions.
