KROKSTADELVA, Norway—Trelleborg A.B.'s offshore operation has been awarded a contract to produce and supply its rubber thermal insulation, corrosion and passive fire protection products for use on the new Johan Sverdrup oil field in the North Sea, located off Norway.
The pact calls for the offshore business to supply its Vikotherm R2 thermal insulation coating, which will be applied to 12 risers, along with its corrosion coating for 195 riser guides, 40 caisson guides and 15 J-tube guides.
Production of the products will begin at Trelleborg's plant in Krokstadelva in September and will continue until May 2016, the firm said.
Trelleborg is working closely with Kvaerner, the new oil field's contractor that awarded the contract, on the project, it said. With Trelleborg in the fold, Kvaerner has reduced the number of suppliers for insulation, corrosion and fire protection requirements, which is expected to save the contractor significant time and money, Trelleborg said.
