CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio—Emerald Kalama Chemical L.L.C. plans to expand at its Rotterdam, Netherlands, plant to boost capacity for benzoic acid and benzaldehyde.
It estimated the addition would cost about $40 million. The firm expects to break ground soon on the expansion and complete the project in late 2016.
A business group of Emerald Performance Materials L.L.C. based in Cuyahoga Falls, the company's board of directors recently approved a plan to add asecond benzoic acid purification and finishing process at the plant in Rotterdam.
The new process will add and additional 100,000 metric tons per year of high purity benzoic acid capacity and also provide increased production capacity for benzaldehyde.
Emerald Kalama Chemical said there has been growing demand for its Kalama and Purox brands of benzoic acid flakes, sodium benzoate granules and liquid benzoic acid, which it produces for food and beverage, personal care, pharmaceutical and a variety of other industrial applications.
