Megadyne's new generation of raw edge toothed V-belts.

MATHI, Italy—Megadyne Group has unveiled a new generation of raw edge toothed V-belts aimed at a wide range of industrial applications.

The company's Linea Gold belts are made of a new halogen-free colored EPDM compound with high performance fibers that are incorporated into the rubber matrix, giving the belt superior resistance to wear, abrasion and aggressive environments, according to Danilo Di Cesare, who heads engineering and sourcing of rubber products.

He said the traverse orientation of the fibers improves the resistance of the cords and strengthens the belt's transverse rigidity.

Because of its toothed profile and its machined edges, it maintains maximum longitudinal flexibility and stability of the stroke, he said. The belts have a high resistance to extreme temperatures, he added.

Headquartered in Mathi, with production plants spread across numerous other countries—including a large North American operation spearheaded by subsidiary Jason Industrial Inc.—the company is producing the line primarily at its factory in Spain or, if necessary, at some of its other production facilities, Di Cesare said.

Its line of raw edge toothed V-belts is being added to the company's present offerings, he said.

“It is our high performance line of raw edge belts and wrapped V-belts.”

Megadyne came out with the line because it felt an improvement in the range of V-belts was needed. By further updating the production processes, Di Cesare said, and the uses of alternative materials, the company now can “offer belts with a power increase of more than 30 percent, with a significant improvement for users of the cost/benefit ratio.”

With machined edges for greater smoothness, the belts feature increased service life, reduced maintenance and replacement costs, no vibration and reduced noise levels, according to Di Cesare.

He cited the wood, stone crusher and other segments of the industry as likely users of the belts, which will be available across the globe.
