WATERFORD, Ireland—West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. has broken ground to mark the start of construction, which is expected to start in mid-July, for the firm's new pharmaceutical component manufacturing plant in Waterford.
The Exton, Pa.-headquartered company hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility June 16 attended by numerous local officials. Its newest plant will span about 95,000 square feet with space available to expand to 250,000 square feet, a company spokeswoman said.
About 180 employees are expected to be on board at the plant by 2018, she said.
West's newest facility will produce elastomeric sheeting for insulin injector cartridges and other high-value packaging components for injectable drugs. The plant is being designed to handle additional products as well to meet anticipated future demand, the spokeswoman said.
