EAST LANSING, Mich.—The Michigan Rubber Group is ready to go fishing for students again.
The group will host its 37th annual Michigan Rubber Group Fishing Derby on July 24 at Grand Haven, Mich.
The event serves as a fundraiser, primarily to provide money for scholarships and technical program fees for students from the Ferris State University Rubber Technology Program.
Registration/check-in is at Chinook Pier from 5-5:45 a.m. Cost is $195 per person, which includes boat, tip and lunch. Boats will board and leave the dock at 6 a.m. sharp. Fishing licenses are available at the dock.
A luncheon will be held at the dock following a noon return, with a 50-50 raffle, awards and door prizes.
Thousands of pounds of salmon and trout have been caught since the event started. According to the club, 32 fishermen caught almost 1,400 pounds of fish in 2013. Last year, 27 fishermen caught nearly 400 pounds of fish.
The MRG is seeking corporate donations, and any gift in kind received will be awarded to winners in the fishing competition and for door prizes. Boat sponsorships are available for $100 per boat and will include a banner with sponsor logo.
The MRG requests that one person from each group or boat is a member in good standing. Dues are $15 per year. Include membership dues with registration if you currently are not a paid member of the MRG.
