CERRITOS, Calif.—R.D. Abbott Co. Inc. has signed an agreement with Dow Corning Corp. to distribute Dow Corning's medical device elastomers to manufacturers and fabricators in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
According to R.D. Abbott, Dow Corning's health care silicone elastomers are suitable for a wide variety of Type 1, 2 and 3 medical device applications, including respiratory care, cardiovascular systems, infusion systems, diabetes care, renal care, surgical tools, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical processing and delivery.
This agreement includes Dow Corning's biomedical grade, Class VI and QP1 grade high consistency rubber and liquid silicone rubber materials. RDA also supplies health care grades of butyl and millable urethane polymers, as well as mold release products.
“RDA has a long history as a technically innovative supplier for Dow Corning, and we look forward to extending our comprehensive technical and distribution resources to their health care market,” Tom Jenkins, RDA senior product manager, said in a statement.
R.D. Abbott said the line of Dow Corning medical device elastomers will further leverage its ability to provide a broad range of elastomeric products and in-house laboratory services to the growing market of health care device manufacturers and fabricators throughout North America. RDA said its technical team specializes in formulation development and optimization, tooling and process design assistance, and product characterization and modification solutions.
R.D. Abbott supplies rubber materials used in compounding and fabrication, including elastomeric polymers, vulcanization chemicals, fillers, bonding agents, testing equipment, and ancillary products. It also offers medical-grade elastomeric polymers and a laboratory for formulation development and optimization, tooling and process design assistance, and bonding and surface modification solutions.
