Mark Ostwald, Helix Medical vice president and general manager.

CARPINTERIA, Calif.—Helix Medical L.L.C., a Freudenberg company, has acquired the silicone tubing product line of W.L. Gore & Associates Inc.

Helix Medical will supply Gore's existing pharmaceutical and biotech customers with Gore silicone tubing and Gore reinforced silicone hose for fluid transfer and peristaltic pump operations, effective immediately.

“Helix Medical is expanding by organic growth and strategic acquisitions,” Mark Ostwald, Helix Medical vice president and general manager, said in an email interview.

The acquisition is a part of that growth and is a “strategic expansion of our successful HelixMark silicone tubing product line,” he said in a statement.

The tubing from Gore will expand Helix Medical's portfolio of silicone tubing with raw material specifically formulated to meet the needs of pharmaceutical and biotechnology processes.

Ostwald said Helix has been a production partner of Gore's since 2012. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Gore decided to sell the product line to Helix Medical as they have been a long-time production partner to Gore in silicone tubing,” Tony Smiley, a business leader at Gore, said in a statement. “Gore will continue to serve the global pharmaceutical and biotech industry with other high performance, technology-driven products while at the same time continuing to supply our customers with the utmost in quality and value.”

Helix Medical will market the silicone tubing line from Gore under the PharmaFocus Premium brand. Helix said all products, customer relations and established part numbers will remain unchanged.

Helix Medical will market the silicone tubing line from Gore under the PharmaFocus Premium brand.

“Gore will retain their own employees previously responsible for this product line, and Helix will not make any changes to employee headcount or production at this time,” Ostwald said. “Helix Medical will continue to produce silicone tubing from its FDA-registered manufacturing facility in Carpinteria ... as well as from its facility in Kaiserslautern, Germany.”

He added that Helix Medical plans to “expand the portfolio in the near future with additional services and product offerings.”

Helix is a global custom manufacturer for the medical device and pharmaceutical industry with 10 manufacturing operations worldwide. Medical manufacturing capabilities include design and development, molding and extrusion, complex catheter systems, assembly, packaging and engineering services.

Gore is a maker of advanced technology products for the electronics, industrial, consumer, pharmaceutical and health care markets.
