CLAIRMONT-FERRAND, France—Michelin aircraft tire division has been recognized as ‘supplier of the year' in the electronics/hydraulics/mechanical category by the aircraft manufacturer and aerospace company Boeing.
Michelin was one of 14 companies and one university honored during a ceremony on April 15 in Chantilly, Virginia, for distinguished performance in working with Boeing. The French group also received a Boeing performance excellence award.
Michelin's partnership with Boeing applies to a large portion of the Boeing range: the Boeing 737, the 777, and the 787 as well as in the military field.
Since 1995, Boeing has adopted and extended the radial technology originally developed by Michelin for the 777 to all its long-range fleet. The future 787-9 will also be fitted with Michelin NZG new-generation radial tires.
Michelin's radial tires with Near Zero Growth technology are designed to provide long, durable tire life and to reduce total cost of ownership without compromising on safety.
“Our success in 2014 was due in large part to the strong performance of our supply chain,” said Kent Fisher, Boeing's leader for supplier management.
“We are facing an increasingly competitive landscape across all our businesses. To continue to lead the market we need supplier partners like Michelin who understand the importance of creating a sustainable competitive advantage with products, services and support that meet or exceed the expectations of our customers,” he added.
Boeing has a group of more than 13,000 active suppliers in 47 countries around the world.
