AKRON—Goodyear has issued a $15,000 challenge to students in grades 6 through 12 to design a Rube Goldberg Machine using STEM—science, technology, engineering and math—principles to fill a Goodyear blimp.
The competition, which offers up to $4,000 to the high school group that produces the most innovative concept, is part of Goodyear's STEM Career Day event that will be held at the University of Akron April 18. The event previously was called Engineering Career Day.
In all, the tire maker will award more than $40,000 in scholarships and grants to participants on career day, the firm said.
Goodyear anticipates more than 2,000 students will participate in the day-long event. In addition to the competition, numerous hands-on STEM-based activities are planned throughout the day.
