UVALDE, Texas—Continental Tires the Americas L.L.C. has unveiled its Extreme Contact DWS06 UHP tire, the next generation of the Extreme Contact DWS introduced in 2009.

The all-season, UHP is the “highest performing tire we have that's an all-season,” Conti officials said during a ride-and-drive media event at Continental's Uvalde Proving Grouinds near Valdez.

The company will roll out the tire in three phases, with availability beginning in May in 87 sizes covering 16- 22-inch rim diameters in W and Y speed ratings and the final phase debuting this fall. It is targeted for sports cars, luxury sports cars and luxury sport crossovers, according to the tire maker.

“We've maintained excellent snow traction while making improvements in wet traction, dry handling and tread life,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for Fort Mill, S.C.-based Conti.

The DWS06 UHP features Conti's new SportPlus Technology that includes macro block shoulders for improved steering and control; chamfered edges for grip; and uniform contact patch for longer tread wear. Traction Grooves help improve the tire's snow performance through increased pattern edges, according to the company, and X-Sipes improve braking and cornering on wet and snowy roads.

The tire also features Quick View Indicators in the tread to help drivers check the alignment and track tread wear—a D for dry, W for wet and S for snow in the tread begin to wear away as the performance is reduced in each category, Conti said.

The ExtremeContact DWS06 is backed by Conti's new Total Confidence Plan. Under the warranty program, the tire carries a 60-day customer satisfaction trial and road hazard coverage—12 months or first 2/32nd-inch—as well as a 72-month manufacturer's limited warranty program. Also included is a 50,000-mile limited mileage warranty, Conti said, and three-year flat tire roadside assistance.
