ROMULUS, Mich.—APS Elastomers and the Huntsman Corp.'s Thermoplastic Polyurethanes division are collaborating on a recently extended range of polycaprolactone-based TPU grades that the companies say are ideal for high temperature, industrial applications.
Part of the Irogran line, Huntsman said that its high performance K-series TPUs offer good processability and an excellent compression set at elevated temperatures. The company said they are perfect for use in heavy-duty engineering equipment, engines and hydraulic systems.
The TPUs can withstand a wide range of temperatures from sub-zero conditions to environments where heat exceeds 100°C, according to Huntsman.
The material has excellent wear resistance against oils, grease and high temperatures, which means the TPUs are suited to the high performance injection molding of seals, gaskets, wheels and rollers, and other demanding applications, Huntsman said.
The range of the polycaprolactone has been extended recently to include the ability to mold products. The product is available in range of different hardness. APS Elastomers will distribute the K-series products, available in granule and pellet form.
Huntsman Corp. is a global chemical manufacturer with 2014 revenues of about $13 billion including the acquisition of Rockwood's performance additives businesses. It has more than 100 manufacturing and research and development facilities in more than 30 countries and employs about 15,000.
