BERWYN, Pa.—Styron officially has completed the change of the firm's name to Trinseo.
The company previously had changed its name on some legal entities but continued to use Styron in the market. Now all legal entities globally have been renamed Trinseo, it said.
Trinseo comes from the word “intrinsic,” the company said, meaning something that's essential and belonging by its nature.
The new name reflects how Trinseo's technologies and materials play an intrinsic role in the innovative and sustainable solutions its customers require in developing the next generation of products, the firm claimed.
“Customers approach us for help with complex material challenges, and we collaborate and innovate with them to design new applications and products together,” said Chris Pappas, president and CEO to the Berwyn-headquartered company, in a statement.
He said the firm's new name “better reflects our breadth as a growing company with a broad global reach and a diverse portfolio of material and technologies.”
Trinseo is a leading global materials producer, specializing in the production of rubber, latex and plastics. Its customers are in a wide range of industries, including rubber goods, tires, home appliances, automotive, building and construction, carpet, consumer electronics, consumer goods, electrical and lighting, medical, paper and paperboard, and packaging.
It operates 19 plants around the world, employs about 2,100 and had sales of about $5.3 billion in 2013
