EAST LANSING, Mich.—The Michigan Rubber Group will host its annual Focus on Ferris Open House on March 25.
The ACS Rubber Division will present a course entitled “Introduction to Compounding and Testing of Elastomers,” from 8 a.m. to 3p.m. Course topics include elastomers, fillers, oils/plasticizers and curing agents. The mixing and testing of elastomer compounds and how to select an elastomer for a given application also will be discussed.
The objectives of the course include opportunities for one-on-one dialog beyond general class interest and providing references/contacts for use as future questions arise. William Stahl of Rainbow Master Mixing L.L.C. is the instructor, and the course is worth 0.6 continuing education units will be given to attendees.
Cost of the course is $425 for a Rubber Division members and $500 for non-members. Cost includes the National Elastomer Center Open House and Michigan Rubber Group social hour/dinner at the Holiday Inn in Big Rapids.
The Rubber Division will provide the course free for full-time students. In order to qualify, students must email proof of current semester class schedule to [email protected]. The first 20 full-time students to register will also receive the Michigan Rubber Group social hour/dinner free.

After the course ends at about 3 p.m, the Michigan Rubber Group will conduct its annual self-guided open house of the National Elastomer Center. Industry attendees may meet students and discuss their course studies as well discuss internships and/or career placement.
Officials from the Rubber Division and Ferris State University Rubber and Plastics technology staff will be among the speakers at the dinner.
