WASHINGTON—May 24-30 will be National Tire Safety Week 2015, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association.
This will be the 14th straight year that the RMA has sponsored National Tire Safety Week, as part of its “Be Tire Smart—Play Your PART” consumer education program.
National Tire Safety Week spotlights the RMA's year-round effort to help drivers learn the steps they should take to ensure their tires stay in good condition, the association said. These steps include checking tire pressure at least once a month and using a Lincoln penny to check if their tire treads have worn down to replacement levels. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, it's time to replace the tire.
Thousands of tire dealers, auto repair shops and industry associations join with the RMA each year to celebrate National Tire Safety Week. Participating retailers distribute the RMA's “Be Tire Smart” brochures and promote tire care through free pressure checks, advertising, promotions and community and media outreach, the RMA said.
Retailers who participated previously in National Tire Safety Week will receive promotional materials again this year, the RMA said. Retailers who haven't yet participated in National Tire Safety Week may order free RMA materials here. www.betiresmart.org.
The “Be Tire Smart” program is funded by RMA members. These include Bridgestone Americas, Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C., Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., Goodyear, Michelin North America Inc., Pirelli Tire North America, Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. and Yokohama Tire Corp.
