Editor's Note: Each week, Rubber & Plastics News will take a look at some of the rubber industry's new products and innovations on www.rubbernews.com. Does your company have a new product or new innovation? To be considered for inclusion in this recurring feature, email [email protected]

Eriez Manufacturing Co. has released its Metal Separation Product Selection Guide, an eight-page brochure available online and in hard copy format.

The guide features Eriez's full line of magnetic separators and metal detectors, the company said, with equipment having application across many industries, including aggregates, ceramics, chemical, coal, food, glass, metalworking, minerals processing, packaging, plastics and rubber, recycling and more.

Eriez said the guide is divided into 12 equipment categories: tube magnets; permanent grate magnets; liquid line magnetic trap separators; permanent plate magnets; metal detection systems; drum separators; pulley separators; suspended magnetic separators; dry mineral processing equipment; wet mineral processing equipment; ball mill separators; and recycling metal separators.

Sections highlight each product available in the associated equipment category with comprehensive overviews describing each product's features and benefits, as well as typical applications.

The brochure includes information on Eriez' ProGrade and EriezXpress programs. Items in the ProGrade line, which includes standard magnetic plates, grates, traps and tubes as well as sight glass magnets, are in stock and available for quick shipping requirements. Eriez said through the EriezXpress Program, some of the company's most popular material handling and contamination control products are offered for next-day shipment to customers with approved credit.

Solvay Specialty Polymers has introduced Xydar MG-850 liquid crystal polymer, a specially designed grade that meets the rigorous performance and processing demands of new high-speed USB 3.0 surface mount connectors.

Solvay said this material delivers the high flow, flatness and dimensional stability required for new 12-gigabyte connectors that target applications in desktop and laptop computers, as well as tablets.

Xydar MG-850 LCP is a 50 percent glass/mineral reinforced polymer that fills thin walls over long flow lengths, the company said. Additionally, the proprietary mineral and glass reinforcement package provides excellent warp resistance, Solvay said, and it exhibits a heat deflection temperature of 271°C (520°F) and infrared reflow capability up to 260°C (500°F). The material's low moisture absorption facilitates improved IR reflow performance, according to Solvay.

Solvay's new injection moldable grade offers performance advantages over competitive low-warp LCPs, Solvay said, and does not suffer from corrosion issues exhibited by other rival material technologies, such as halogen-free flame retardant polyphthalamide resins. Xydar LCP is inherently flame retardant, transparent to microwave radiation and resistant to virtually all chemicals. The material has an UL 94 V0 flammability rating from Underwriters Laboratories of 0.2 mm without additives.

Available in black or natural colors, Xydar MG-850 LCP is sold globally to leading processors and connector manufacturers.

    Dymax's UV/Visible light-curable, tack free, moisture- and chemical-resistant FIP/CIP gasket for sealing heat-sensitive substrates.

Dymax Corp. has introduced GA-201, a UV/Visible light-curable, tack free, moisture- and chemical-resistant FIP/CIP gasket for sealing heat-sensitive substrates such as plastic enclosures.

Dymax said the GA-201 is used as an alternative to tapes, PSA die-cut gaskets, 2K epoxies, silicone rope, or RTV sealants, and it helps reduce labor costs and part handling while increasing production throughput.

Additionally, GA-201 easily can be dispensed into intricate and complex configurations and can accommodate design changes without investment in additional tooling. The material cures on demand, eliminating the need for racking and the waste associated with poorly fitting or improperly aligned die-cut gaskets, Dynmax said.

GA-201 gasketing material acts as a barrier to prevent absorption or penetration of air, dust, noise, liquids, gaseous substances or dirt, the company said. Additionally, Dymax said it provides reliable protection, is easy to dispense and cure, cures without damaging heat-sensitive substrates, is cost effective and reduces process time and part handling.
