SINGAPORE—The International Rubber Study Group has launched the pilot phase of its Sustainable Natural Rubber Initiative, including the startup of the SNR-i website.
First announced at World Rubber Summit 2014, SNR-i is a program designed to facilitate sustainability and transparency in the natural rubber industry, according to the IRSG.
“The objective of this initiative is to demonstrate and promote the sustainable origin of natural rubber,” the group said in a Jan. 5 press release. “Any organization along the natural rubber value chain can get involved in this initiative through a self-declaration of conformity with the SNI-i Key Performance Indicators.”
The SNR-i Working Group, comprised of representatives from the NR producer and manufacturer sectors, will meet at least once a year to review the program's criteria and indicators, the IRSG said. Those criteria and indicators are available free on the SNR-i website, it said.
