WASHINGTON—Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. has petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding 814 General Altimax RT43 replacement passenger tires, size 195/65R15 91T and 91H.
The 91T and 91H tires have mold labeling errors, each bearing the inflation pressure and tread information for the others, according to the notice published in the Nov. 21 Federal Register.
A finding of inconsequential noncompliance would mean Conti would not have to conduct a formal recall of the tires. Conti argued that the errors have no impact on the performance or safety of the tires or any vehicles that have them. It also noted that NHTSA has granted findings of inconsequential noncompliance in similar cases in the past.
NHTSA is giving interested parties until Dec. 22 to comment on Conti's petition. The notice may be found by clicking here.
